Biography
Dr. Emily Kuo proudly considers herself a “Texas Girl,” despite having lived in multiple cities and internationally. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin and began her healthcare journey as a phlebotomist and ER technician at the former Brackenridge Hospital.
Military Medical Service and Leadership
Graduating from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 on a Health Professions Scholarship with the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Kuo completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base/Wright State University program. Her first assignment was as Medical Director of the Internal Medicine Clinic at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. During her time there, she held numerous leadership roles and deployed as the Critical Care Team Lead for a Presidential Support Mission to Senegal in 2013.
Transitioning to Civilian Medicine
Dr. Kuo's final station with the Air Force was at JBSA Lackland in San Antonio, Texas, where she cared for patients and trained internal medicine residents. In her first civilian role, she worked as a hospitalist at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center before founding her current venture with Westlake Medical Consultants.
Personal Passions
In her free time, Dr. Kuo enjoys rock climbing, reading science fiction and fantasy, and spending time with her husband and two children.

Biography
A proud Austin native, Dr. Shawn Laney claims he’s “more Texan” than Dr. Kuo. He graduated magna cum laude from Southwestern University in Georgetown, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors for academic excellence. He went on to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Career in Internal Medicine and Hospice Care
Dr. Laney completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Central Texas Medical Foundation at the former Brackenridge Hospital. He began his career as a hospitalist at St. David’s Medical Center with Hospital Internists of Austin before joining Hospitalist Concepts Consulting in 2011. Through this role, he provided hospitalist care and pre-operative evaluations across multiple facilities in the Austin area. Dr. Laney also has extensive experience in hospice and palliative care, having served as Associate Medical Director for The Medical Team, a multi-state home health agency.
Personal Interests
In his free time, Dr. Laney enjoys golfing, hiking, and spending time with his wife, two children, and their two dogs.
